There are approximately 20 million Americans living in recovery today, holding jobs, paying taxes, and living with respect in their communities. You may not recognize them as being in recovery—but they are among your neighbors, co-workers, family members, and community leaders.

We have helped many of them to access and sustain long-term recovery from otherwise lost lives. Every time you donate to The Council of Southeast Pennsylvania, Inc., you help us to provide resources and opportunities to reduce the impact of addiction and to improve related health issues for the entire area of Southeastern Pennsylvania. Even a small amount furthers our programs in prevention, consultation, education, advocacy, assessment, intervention and recovery support services in your community. 

We are pleased to announce that we help more than 2,400 individuals and families at our centers every month and at the end of just one 12-month period, 92.2% of our participants remained clean and sober. But we have more work to do because the need for our services is growing. We have plans to expand our services in the coming months and would appreciate the help of your donation of any size, which you can designate to be used exactly as you wish. The following will give you more details of our accomplishments in just a 12-month period in the donation categories you can select below:

The Council of Southeast Pennsylvania, Inc.  - Making a donation to this category will allow us to use it in the area of services where there is the greatest need

PRO-ACT - This program provides advocacy and peer-to-peer recovery support services through our various centers. 

• The Philadelphia Recovery Community Center had 17,964 visitors and served 1,561 individuals; participants reported an increase in abstinence from drugs, a significant increase in housing, and a doubling of employment This Center also oversaw PRO-ACT Recovery Walks! 2012 and increased attendance to 18,000
• The Philadelphia Recovery Training Center served 2,356 individuals, providing 3,127 hours of recovery support services and trainings, new volunteers, recovery coaches and group facilitators
• The Southern Bucks Recovery Community Center’s participants reported an increase in abstinence, a substantial increase in housing and a rise in employment
• The Central Bucks Recovery Resource Center has had more than 1,000 visitors since opening its doors in January 2012
• The Women’s Recovery Community Center supported 11 women residents with safe and sober housing, a number we hope to increase in the coming months

Prevention and Student Services - Under this category we provide education and increase awareness of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs to youth and adults.

• Their Bucks County Medication Take-Back Project collected more than 8,256 lbs. of medication, more than any other county in Pennsylvania
• The program provided Life Skills Training, Drug Trends Workshops, an early intervention program; and services to secondary and elementary school teams

Information and Recovery Support Line - Our free and confidential Alcohol & Other Drug Information and Recovery Support Line is available Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm EST

• This line provided information or referral to 1,411 individuals and provided intervention

Mothers Overcoming Mood-Altering Substances (MOMS) 

• MOMS helps the pregnant substance user to stop using and find recovery
• MOMS opened 47 new cases, provided services during 18 pregnancies, and reported 18 healthy babies delivered

Children and Youth - The Council works closely with Bucks County Children & Youth Social Services Agency providing drug and alcohol assessments and outreach services for clients.

• We conducted 187 assessments; provided outreach to 45; and served 39 families

Family Education and Intervention

• This program gives participants tools to help them address addiction in the family and begin their own process of healing and recovery.
• We helped more than 350 family members understand the disease of addiction and what they can do to help a family member and themselves

Alcohol and Other Drug Awareness

• This program educates young people ages 15 to 20 with regard to effects and consequences of substance use
• 515 young people completed this program

Advocacy and Public Policy - Within this program, volunteers meet with legislators, attend rallies and policy meetings, educate about legislation, and hold focus groups to identify issues to be addressed

Ways You Can Help 
We welcome your donations by check, made out to “The Council” and mailed to our address below; or made online with a credit card.  All donations are acknowledged and all requests respected, including those for anonymity. There also are other ways of contributing to The Council and PRO-ACT services that you might wish to consider:

In Lieu of Holiday Greeting Cards
Estimate how much you would spend on greeting cards and postage this year and donate it to The Council. Then send your friends a message saying:
“In lieu of sending Holiday cards this year, I have made a donation to The Council of Southeast Pennsylvania, Inc., to provide programs and services to those who wish to achieve long-term recovery from addiction.”

In Honor of a Loved One
Honorary gifts can be made as an expression of respect for a family member or other person who has had a positive impact on your life (someone who helped in your recovery, or a special coach or teacher, for example). These gifts are often made at special times of the year, such as birthdays, holidays, or anniversaries.

Upon the Passing of a Loved One
Often, in the shock of losing a loved one, it’s difficult to think how to memorialize them. Some people request their family members and friends to donate to The Council in that person’s name so that their loved one will have a lasting effect on the lives of others. This is particularly meaningful to the family if the person passed due to the disease of addiction or, alternatively, died in recovery of other causes.

Matching Gifts Program
Many companies and organizations have matching gifts programs as a benefit to their employees and retirees who wish to donate to a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization (which The Council is*). The employer pledges to match your contribution, sometimes in a dollar for dollar match and others are by a percentage of the employee’s donation. Speak to your Human Resources manager to find out if your employer has such a program in effect.

Bequests and Special Gifts
Bequests are gifts you can make through a Will or Living Trust to provide support for The Council’s services without affecting your current income. The Council welcomes such bequests as well as gifts of stocks, bonds, or other assets you may wish to donate now.

The Council presents a variety of events throughout the year that bring awareness and support to our mission. We rely on local business, community leaders and individual sponsorships to help with these events, such as the annual PRO-ACT Recovery Walks in Philadelphia. By supporting us in this way, you gain exposure for your business while supporting the health of community.
