#StandUp Neshaminy is a wide coalition of concerned parents, educators, administrators, community leaders, municipal and county officials, law enforcement and rehabilitation professionals dedicated to the prevention of drug abuse in Neshaminy schools and in the community.

April is National Alcohol Awareness month Each April since 1987, the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc. The Council is taking part in National Medicine Abuse Awareness Month to help raise awareness about the dangers of prescription (Rx) drug abuse and over-the-counter (OTC) cough medicine abuse. Nationwide, 1,300 lives are lost to tobacco-related illness every day. That translates to 1,300 American consumers who are no longer purchasing tobacco products. Tobacco industry documents have described youth as “replacement smokers” for those who die early due to tobacco-related illness, reflecting a long history of targeting youth in their marketing campaigns. For Kick Butts Day, youth across the U.S. took a stand against Big Tobacco through their own “Not a Replacement” campaign, using the tobacco industry’s own words to empower their peers and the community to embrace their individuality and resist being targeted for financial profit. Here, Bucks County students join thousands of empowered youth nationwide to declare who they really are and to reject Big Tobacco’s label of young people as mere “replacements.” For more information, please visit <a href="http://www.kickbuttsday.org/" mce_href="http://www.kickbuttsday.org/" target="_blank">http://www.kickbuttsday.org/</a>. #KickButtsDay #NotAReplacement <h3>Good Samaritan Law Has Been Passed in Pennsylvania</h3> Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett signed legislation on Tuesday September 30th, 2014 to provide prosecutorial immunity to people who overdose on drugs and witnesses who call emergency authorities for help. Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) developed this program to equip all parents and caregivers with the tools needed to help them start the potentially lifesaving conversation about alcohol with their teens. The Power of Parents program, made available by their National Presenting Sponsor, Nationwide Insurance, includes a parent handbook created through the joint effort of MADD and Dr. Robert Turrisi of Pennsylvania State University, this comprehensive new handbook is based on Dr. Turrisi’s successful program for parents of college students. Dr. Turrisi now offers this in-depth, evidence-based tool as a resource for parents of high school students, to assist them in communicating with their teens about alcohol and preventing underage drinking.
